Друг мой, не может быть никаких сомнений в том, что еврейское государство было создано в Палестине вопреки воле арабов, живших там уже более тысячи лет. Нет никаких сомнений и в том, что радикальные взгляды доминировали среди приверженцев сионизма. Воьмите, к примеру, британскую декларацию 1922 (sic!) года (the Command Paper, в английском оригинале), в которой в частности утверждается следующее:
Unauthorised statements have been made to the effect that the purpose in view is to create a wholly Jewish Palestine. Phrases have been used such as that 'Palestine is to become as Jewish as England is English '. His Majesty's Government regard any such expectation as impracticable and have no such aim in view. Nor have they at any time contemplated ..... the disappearance or the subordination of the Arabic population, language or culture in Palestine. They would draw attention to the fact that the terms of the (Balfour) Declaration referred to do not contemplate that Palestine as a whole should be converted into a Jewish National Home, but that such a Home should be founded in Palestine ".
Из вышеприведенной цитаты следует, что радикальный сионизм целенаправленно извращал изначальные идеи и цели, намеченные в декларации Бальфура. И ответная негативная реакция арабского населения Палестины была не только неизбежна, но и справедлива.
Об этом же свидетельствуют и заключения, сделанные в 1945-м году объединенной англо-американской комиссией, изучившей свидетельства американских, британских и палестинских еврейских организаций в поддержку идеи создания еврейского государства в Палестине. Вот выдержка из этих заключений:
In all the hearings, although evidence was given by those sections of the Zionist movement which are critical of the Biltmore Program, most of the witnesses took the official Zionist line. The Committee also heard the Jewish opponents of Zionism: first, the small groups in America and Britain who advocate assimilation as an alternative to Jewish nationalism; second, Agudath Israel, an organization of orthodox Jews which supports unrestricted Jewish immigration into Palestine while objecting to the secular tendencies of Zionism; and third, representatives of important sections of Middle Eastern Jewry, many of whom fear that their friendly relations with the Arabs are being endangered by political Zionism.
As the result of the public hearings and of many private conversations, we came to the conclusion that the Biltmore Program has the support of the overwhelming majority of Zionists. Though many Jews have doubts about the wisdom of formulating these ultimate demands, the program has undoubtedly won the support of the Zionist movement as a whole, chiefly because it expresses the policy of Palestinian Jewry which now plays a leading role in the Jewish-Agency.
Отсюда опять-таки очевидно, что к 1945-му году умеренные и консервативные голоса (навроде партии новых переселенцев или Hashomer Hatzair), призывавшие к сосуществованию с арабами оказались в сионистском течении в подавляющем меньшинстве.
И англо-американская комиссия хорошо понимала, что такая радикализация сионизма грозила нарушить и без того хрупкий мир в Палестине:
Whether this almost universal support for the demand for a Jewish State is based on full knowledge of the implications of the policy and of the risks involved in carrying it out is, of course, quite another matter.
Увы, но последнее слово в сионизме осталось за радикальными лидерами...
