Due sottomarini nucleari della Royal Navy partecipano alla guerra contro l'Iraq: sono l'HMS TURBULENT (S87) e l'HMS SPLENDID (S106). Alcuni dei missili Tomahawk che hanno colpito Bagdad già dalla notte del 20 marzo 2003 sono stati lanciati da questi due sottomarini britannici.
L'unità HMS SPLENDID è una veterana di questo tipo di attacchi: nel 1999 durante la guerra del Kosovo lanciò dei missili Tomahawk contro postazioni serbe.
