То есть как? Негры до сих пор разговаривают на суахели и об Америке знать не хотят? О латинос в том же тексте:

This is 12 percent of the total, exactly equal to the percentage of the U.S. population that is Hispanic.
Так что деления на туго- и быстроплавки не правильно.
То есть, можно "сплавить" голландцев, ирландцев, французов, немцев, ирландцев и славян, но вот другие этносы настолько "тугоплавки", что сплав превращается в "салат".
И именно "салат" и заменил melting pot как идеал мультикультурного американского общества.
