Smucker Sales Strong, Helped by Pet Food, Coffee
J.M. Smucker Co. on Thursday said its revenue jumped 40% in the latest quarter, boosted by its recently acquired pet food business and strength in coffee sales, and profit came in sharply better than expected. The company, which produces Folgers coffee and Pillsbury baking mixes in addition to its namesake jellies, jams and peanut butter, also lifted the lower end of its 2016 guidance. It now expects earnings in the range of $5.70 to $5.80 a share, compared with previous guidance of $5.65 to $5.80. For the quarter ended in October, profit grew 11% to $176 million from $158.3 million a year earlier.
