В основном так и есть. Но если попадется как исключение особо горячая бяка, то это плохо. Об том и речь. В статье, которую я цитировала, о них и говорится.
Все правильно статья говорит, большинство домашних гранитных столешниц фонят мало. Я где-то с этим спорила? Но фонят тем не менее, и если гранит особо экзотический, то может не повезти.

Research scientists at Rice University in Houston and at the New York State Department of Health are currently conducting studies of granite widely used in kitchen counters. William J. Llope, a professor of physics at Rice, said his preliminary results show that of the 55 samples he has collected from nearby fabricators and wholesalers, all of which emit radiation at higher-than-background levels, a handful have tested at levels 100 times or more above background.
Я профессору физики верю больше, чем Marble Institute of America. Да и потом, чтобы Health Department заинтересовался, это надо постараться. Сначала в США обычно все загадят, а уж потом Health Department заинтересуется и начинает копать.
Всё, что я хотела сказать - может не повезти с куском гранита, проследите, если можете. Зачем вставать в третью позицию и заявлять, что такого не бывает и радон из гранита не выделяется, "он камень, он твердый". Как Косой говорил, "он же памятник!"

"Measurements of radon exhalation for a total of 50 selected samples of construction materials used in Saudi Arabia were taken using a radon gas analyzer. These materials included sand, aggregate, cement, gypsum, hydrated lime, ceramics and granite. It was found that the granite samples were the main source of radon emanations. A total of 32 local and imported granite samples were tested (...) The average radon emanation of the granite samples was found to be 21% of the total radium concentration. Therefore, granite can be a source of indoor radon as well as external g-radiation from the uranium decay series".
Потому я тут посты и пощу - очень интересно общаться с людьми, которые про явления, изученные учеными со всего мира, фамильярно заявляют - "Так не бывает!" (Простым языком: Ты суслика видишь? - Нет. - А он есть!)

"Emanation of radon (222Rn) from granite used for countertops and mantels was measured with continuous and integrating radon monitors. Each of the 24 granite samples emitted a measurable amount of radon. Of the two analytical methods that utilized electret-based detectors, one measured the flux of radon from the granite surfaces, and the other one measured radon levels in a glass jar containing granite cores. Additional methods that were applied utilized alpha-scintillation cells and a continuous radon monitor. Measured radon flux from the granites ranged from 2 to 310 mBq m-2 s-1, with most granites emitting <20 mBq m-2 s-1. Emanation of radon from granites encapsulated in airtight containers produced equilibrium concentrations ranging from <0.01 to 11 Bq kg-1 when alpha-scintillation cells were used, and from <0.01 to 4.0 Bq kg-1 when the continuous radon monitor was used."

The radon and thoron concentrations in dwellings with granite floorings are found to be higher compared with other types. A correlation between the indoor radon concentration and dose in air from terrestrial gamma radiation is observed."
Ладно, бог с ним... даже если бы гранит бесплатно раздавали и он был бы 100% безопасным, все равно мне не понравилось бы жить, как в усыпальнице.
