Changing your name on your PayPal account is not difficult but we do require some documents from you to confirm the change of name. You can ask us to change the name on your account if there's an error, you legally changed your name or you used a nickname. You cannot change the name on your account to another person's name.

Here's how to ask for the name on your account to be changed:

1.Go to www.paypal.com/uk and log in to your account.
2.Click Profile near the top of the page.
3.In the Name section, click 'Change'.
4.Select the type of change you would like to make and click 'Continue'.
5.Follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: To help protect your information we don't accept files that are sent as email attachments. If you email us attachments, you'll still need to upload your documents.

Please provide the following documents:

• A valid photo ID showing either your new or old name, i.e., driving licence, passport or other state or government issued photo ID that also includes your date of birth.
• A copy of a legal document showing your name change (e.g., marriage certificate-licence, divorce decree, deed poll).

Here's how you upload your documents:

1.Click 'Upload Files'.
2.Browse for the file(s) you want to upload and click 'Attach this File'.
3.Click 'Send Files to PayPal'.

Note: We may contact you to ask for written confirmation that you would like to change the name on your account and to specify the exact name you wish to add to your account if your request is in any way unclear.

If you have a Business account:

1. Go to www.paypal.com/uk and log in to your account.
2. Click the Profile icon at the top of the page and then select 'Profile and Settings' from the drop-down menu.
3. Beside 'Name', click 'Change'.

Note: To help protect your information we don't accept files that are sent as email attachments. If you email us attachments, you'll still need to upload your documents.

Please provide the following documents:

• A valid photo ID showing your new name, i.e.: driving licence, passport or other state or government issued photo ID that also includes your date of birth.
• A copy of the court-issued document showing your name change (e.g.: marriage certificate-licence, divorce decree, deed poll).
• Written confirmation that you would like to change the name on your account.

Here's how to upload your documents:

1.Click 'Upload Files'.
2.Browse for the file you want to upload and click 'Attach this File'.
3.Click 'Send Files to PayPal'.

Here's how to fax your documents:

1.Click 'Continue to Fax Cover Sheet'.
2.Enter your name, a brief description of your request, and how many pages you're faxing (include the cover sheet as a page).
3.Click 'Print Page'.
4.Fax the documents to 08707 303 198.

We will email you when the contact name on your Business account is changed.

Proof of Address:

As a regulated financial institution we're required to collect and verify certain information about you. At the moment you need to verify your address, by providing us with a proof of address.

What is a valid proof of address?

We accept a copy of:
- Utility bills (phone and broadband services, health insurance, gas, water, electricity , etc.)
- Bank or credit card statements
- Your driving licence. (Note: We can only accept a driving licence if: it shows your address, it's been issued within the last 12 months, and it's accompanied by another valid government-issued photo ID)
- Your printed payslip.

We do not accept:
- Invoices
- Partial Documents.

Note: The document must show your full name and address as registered on the PayPal account. If the document only shows initials, a proof of identity is needed as well. The document cannot be older than 12 months and should be fully legible.


Once you've completed these steps and provided any additional information we may need, your case will be reviewed by one of our Account Specialists. We'll send you an email with the outcome of the review.

If you can't complete these steps, click 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal page to get more information or to contact Customer Service.
