AviPreview
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's it do?
AviPreview is a utility that enables you to view some of the video content of DivX3 or DivX4 AVI files when the file has become corrupt and you no longer have the start or end parts. AviPreview will save a movie out to a separate AVI file, made up of scenes that it managed to salvage from the corrupt file, so you can see what was in the file and decide whether or not to keep the corrupt movie. The current version also supports MPEG audio extraction, and has preliminary support for codecs other than DivX3/DivX4.
What do you need to run it?
The current version (AviPreview Console v0.78 Beta) is written in Visual C++ and requires a Win32 machine (95/98/Me/NT/2k/XP) to run on. It uses a command line interface so you'll need a command window to run it. Windows 9x and Me systems are obsolete and I don't perform any testing on these OSs so they're not officially supported but there shouldn't be any big problems.
How do you get it?
As long as you have read and understood the licence agreement on the software welcome page, AviPreview Console v0.78 Beta is available in zip format here: http://www.biryani.demon.co.uk/software/AviPreviewCv0.78Beta.zip
How do you use it?
The readme.txt enclosed in the zip file should give you all the information you need, so make sure you read it!
How much does it cost?
AviPreview is free, but if you like it please consider throwing me a quid or two. There's a donation bit on the software welcome page (click on 'Software' over there on the left). Cheers!
How can I find out about new releases?
Well, it just to happens that there is an AviPreview mailing list! Simply send an email to listserv@funkster.org with the line 'subscribe avipreview' (without the quotes) in the message *body* (NOT the subject line, leave this blank) and you will get a subscription confirmation by return of email. Once you confirm your address, you will be added to the AviPreview mailing list. Please note that this is an owner-post only list, and not a discussion list for AviPreview users.
